Woman Stabs Her Boyfriend To Death For Cheating

Latoya Baines, a 24-year-old Batavia woman was jailed Monday after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death because she thought he was cheating on her.

According to the Batavia Police Department, officers found an unresponsive man in a stairwell at Batavia Apartments, bleeding from apparent stab wounds.

Baines and another woman were also found having a physical altercation at the bottom of the stairs. Officers recovered three knives from the scene.

Investigators say the victim, identified as 25-year-old Gerald J. Jackson, was rushed to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, where he was later pronounced dead. Detectives determined that Baines, a mother of two, stabbed the victim during a domestic dispute brought on by her suspicions of him cheating on her with the woman she was fighting with.

The other woman, who was also a resident in the apartment complex, was not apprehended.

Baines's pastor, Audrey McClay, described her as an "upstanding young woman" during her court appearance and asked everyone to pray for her and her family, who declined to comment on the situation.

However, according to court records, in June 2010 Baines reportedly stabbed Jackson in his palm and arm. Officers were called to the scene, but Jackson declined to press charges on her.

Baines was booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder. She is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 9th.
