Alexis Felton, a 21-year-old Orlando resident was jailed after she allegedly tried to strangle her 11-month-old daughter six times while she was in the hospital

According to Orlando police, the child was in a pediatric intensive care unit at Florida Hospital South for unreported reasons when Felton allegedly choked the baby on six occasions.

Felton was allegedly caught on surveillance video looking to see if anyone was coming before walking over to the child's crib and then choking the baby.

During the last choking incident, security cameras showed the child kicking her legs and gasping for breath. Nurses were alerted by a monitor when the child became unresponsive. When hospital staff entered the room, Felton claimed that the child was having "another episode".

During questioning, Felton admitted to choking the child, stating that she "didn't want the child to suffer any longer."

Family members stated that the child was born healthy, but has been in and out of the hospital her whole life. The child remains hospitalized and is being held in protective custody.

Felton was booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with attempted homicide. She is currently being held without bond, and is on suicide watch.
