Teacher Gets Charged With Having Sex With Student Multiple Times Inside Her Classroom

Jennalin Garcia-Calle, a 28-year-old teacher at a New Jersey high school, was jailed Thursday after she allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old student inside her classroom, then fled to Florida after she realized the authorities were hot on her tail.

According to police, Garcia-Calle had sex multiple times with a 16-year-old male student inside her classroom at Plainfield High School in New Jersey.

Investigators say Garcia-Calle, who taught Algebra at the school, had sex with the student on at least three occasions. The alleged sexual encounters began in December 2012 and continued until the student began discussing the encounters with friends and family.

Prosecutors believe the sexual encounters took place during times when school was in session.

When Garcia-Calle learned that the student was talking about the encounters, she fled to Broward County Florida and checked herself into a mental health facility. She also allegedly sent messages to the victim, demanding that he "get rid of" all communications that took place between the pair. He ignored the demand and turned the information over to detectives.

The U.S. Marshalls' office traced the messages to Garcia-Calle's current location in Florida and obtained a warrant for her arrest on Tuesday. U.S. Marshalls, joined by the Davie Police Department, took Garcia-Calle into custody on Thursday.

Garcia-Calle was booked into the Broward County Jail and charged with sexual assault and child abuse. She will attend an extradition hearing on Monday and is expected to be back in New Jersey early next week.
